Photo import methods
For users the app identifies as being in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK, managed cloud AI uses only Gemini projects with active billing. This also applies within the free app's cloud quota. Outside these regions, Free Tier projects may be used under Google's terms. Your own Gemini API key is subject to the same regional requirements; see the cloud AI privacy information.
VocVantage supports photo-based vocabulary import using AI and other tools. Different methods suit different use cases. After extraction, users always see a validation screen where they can review and adjust the results:
Use: Suitable for most cases with vocabulary in both the foreign and native languages.
Limitations & quota: Requires internet access. Cloud selection considers the detected region and copyright markings. The free version includes a trial quota (up to 5/day or 50/month); expand it permanently with Premium, flexibly with AI credits or use your own Gemini API key (your Google project's quotas and prices apply).
Description: Uses modern large language models through a cloud interface.
Use: A less resource-intensive alternative to AI LLM (Cloud).
Limitations & quota: Requires internet access. Cloud selection considers the detected region and copyright markings. Uses the cloud allowance (expandable with a Premium one-time purchase, AI credits or your own Gemini API key under your Google project's terms).
Description: Combines local heuristics with cloud intelligence, using fewer resources than AI LLM (Cloud).
Use: Suitable when foreign and native vocabulary are listed in columns.
Limitations: Less accurate than LLMs for very complex layouts. No structuring beyond individual vocabulary items.
Description: Fast on-device recognition with no data transmission. Classic ML models run directly on the device. The photo must be aligned very precisely.
Use: An iterative, interactive approach when AI Classic (Local) does not give satisfactory results.
Limitations: –
Description: Users split documents into logical blocks for separate processing and can further process the automatic export. Block types: native language, foreign language, example sentences and mixed blocks.
Use: Specifically for importing vocabulary from books (e.g. novels).
Limitations: –
Description: Identifies all foreign-language vocabulary on a page and automatically finds the appropriate translations.
Use: Uses the benefits of LLMs directly on the device, 100% private and free.
Limitations: A powerful device is recommended for optimal performance.

Goal
Learning goals are central to vocabulary learning. They contain a set of vocabulary, the learning methods and the target date. You can track goal completion and share it with others.
